I am living my dream……
My family and i went to my parents’ house for Easter this year. My childhood house is in the beautiful seaside resort of Scarborough. I always feel a sense of excitement and nostalgia as i walk into my parents’ house that i grew up in, my old bedroom, their beautiful big garden, so many memories and happy times come flooding back. My mum and dad had arranged an Easter egg hunt for the boys and watching them spend time hunting for Easter chocolate delights, i realised how fast they were growing up. I find it magical watching my two boys playing in the same places, the same rooms, the same garden that holds a special place in my heart.
After the chocolate fix and sugar rush had subsided I ended up sorting through a few boxes i had brought back from university, that never seem to have made it to my family house in Leeds, when I found an old diary from my teenage years. Reading it was like meeting an old friend, someone who was just starting out in life, unsure of who they were and what path their life would take. As i was reading snippets about boyfriends or what i was going to wear on Saturday night, i found a paragraph about what my perfect life would be….
”When I’m 30 i want to be….married with children, have a nice house, have a pug dog, i want to be a photographer……" This stopped me in my tracks! I am living my perfect life as described by a younger me (apart from having a pug, but hey you can’t have it all!)
It’s so easy sometimes to get caught up in life and not actually realise what we have, who we have in our lives and how lucky we really are. Just the other day I was complaining to my friend that i never seem to have any time anymore. With myself and my husband both having our own businesses, some days we both never seem to stop. We get up early, get the kids ready, sort breakfast, do the school run, my husband goes to work, I come home and tidy up after breakfast, hoover, go to a playgroup, change nappies, build a tower and knock it down 34 times, have lunch, put my youngest down for a nap, do some editing on photoshoots i have done when my youngest is at nursery, do the school run, make tea, check homework, my husband comes home, we do baths, do the washing up, do some laundry, put the kids to bed, check on emails, do some more editing and then finally go to bed. Im sure this will be the same for many parents out there!
Although my life is busy and chaotic, those few days at home have made me stop and realise how lucky I really am to be ‘living my dream’ …..now back to the chaos and I wouldn’t change it for the world! xx
