Your Whitby Newborn Photographer

I’ve been thinking about this for a while. Photography in general is a saturated market and to stand out in the crowd, you have to be different. Whitby has a lot of talented photographers, not just newborn photographers but many amazing landscape photographers too. Why would a customer who is looking for a newborn or baby photographer book me over someone else? What makes me different? A few nights ago, I read through the reviews customers had left me over the past couple of years, and one thing really stands out. My patience and dedication to capture that perfect shot. 

How I work 

I’ve worked with children for many years and understand their needs and little quirks. Every child is different and what may work for one child may not work for another. You need to think on your feet in this job and be prepared for the unexpected! I am not shy! During a photoshoot I will often sing nursery rhymes fantastically out of tune, have plastic animals dancing on my head, basically anything I can do to get those smiles. For those precious newborn photoshoots, your baby will guide us. We will stop for cuddles, milk breaks and nappy changes. A photoshoot with me is never rushed. It takes time for a child to adapt to new surroundings.

My photography studio in Whitby is not a traditional studio. It is homely and bright which seems to help children settle in quicker. I let older children have a look around and show them my camera, how it flashes and showing them their photo on the back. Often by now children are feeling more confident and their personalities are beginning to shine. In a world where we cannot wait for anything, I take the time to care about your memories and strive to capture some beautiful images for you to treasure. 

 Your Newborn baby

I genuinely love people, making friends and finding out about my customers. Most new parents who come to my studio for a photoshoot have alot in common. They are sleep deprived, still feeling emotional about the birth and quite frankly feel as though they have been hit by a tonne of bricks. I am by no means a parenting expert, but I have somehow managed to muddle my way through for the past ten, nearly eleven years. I am often asked by new parents for reassurance on different subjects regarding their newbor baby and children. My answer nearly always tends to go along the lines of “You are doing a great job, stop being so hard on yourself, you know your baby best” Lets face it, kids don’t come with a manual. Just as you think you have cracked one phase, another one is right around the corner. If you are anything like my husband and I, we just kind of bumble along, hoping we are making the right choices and decisions.

Your newborn photoshoot

I love getting to know the families I photograph. How did they meet? How was their birth? Often, once couples start sharing their story they begin to relax too. It’s so important for me to find out what you actually want from a photoshoot with me. I will always ask what kind of images you like from my galleries. This includes colour schemes, style, props, poses etc so I can make sure I meet your expectations. 

I am extremely passionate about my work, I don’t see this as a photography business, this is my life and i absolutely love it! I live and breathe it. My business survives on word of mouth, especially in a small town like Whitby.
