Newborn photoshoots are a once in a lifetime chance to capture your precious memories
Being able to capture images for parents of those first special days with their newborn is something I will never tire of. As a mum myself, I have come to realise that children have an incredible effect on time. They make it fly and you honestly won’t believe just how fast! The precious newborn days will be over in a blink of an eye. A newborn photo shoot will freeze this memory for you to enjoy forever. Looking back on my photos of my boys, I really cant believe they were ever that small!
I know you will take hundreds of images of your newborn on your phone, I was the same! However, looking back, none will ever compare to the beauty of an artistically crafted newborn portrait. A professional photographer understands light, composition and how to handle and pose your baby safely.
When should you book?
The best time to book a newborn photoshoot with me is after your 20 week scan. I have limited availability each month and slots get reserved very quickly. The diary of a newborn and baby photographer is a complicated place! Nobody told your baby that they are expected to turn up for their portrait session. Some babies can’t wait to get here, some are fashionably late. This makes my diary a wonderfully fluid place! If you have left things a bit late, please do contact me as i might have had a cancellation and will do my best to squeeze you in.
Most people don’t know but these special newborn shoots take place when your baby is under 2 weeks old. This is for a number of reasons. First, newborns sleep a lot, sometimes up to 18 hours a day. Most of the curled up posed images on my website are achieved when a baby is in a deep sleep. Posing is generally easier too as a newborn will still be in a curled up position, just like they were when they were in the womb.
What to expect
When you first book your session, you will be required to pay the session fee to reserve your place in my diary. Once your baby arrives we can then confirm the best date and time for your session. My studio is not a traditional, clinical photography studio – it has been designed to be warm and comfortable. I want you and your baby to feel relaxed and at ease.
So that I can capture your baby perfectly while they are still so brand new, for some of the session your baby will be in their birthday suit. I have a range of custom designed newborn clothes, sourced from all over the world that you are welcome to borrow during your session. Along with outfits, I have an extensive range of props such as iron beds, baskets, tins, buckets and boxes that I love to use too. Every session is unique and a memorable experience. When you book, I will ask you if you have a particular colour scheme in mind for your session. Blankets, outfits and wraps can then be individually chosen.
